Hand-Painted Heraldic Cartoon #71BF

Category:

Description

This is possibly a gouache or tempura hand-painted cartoon on paper. Paper was more expensive than linen at this time in history. Cartoons were necessary as an artistic reference for approval in the production of a tapestry. The background is a deep hunter green highlighted in shades of gold. The crest shield is topped with a crown. The field of the crest includes a pair of crossed swords motifs, and three crowns. Archival matte, floated between glass and framed in gold leaf; this herald subject would add quality and interest to any area.
